Episode Summary
The first fight between Shohoku & Ryonan. In this episode Sakuragi is not included in the first five of their team. Actually, it was this time that they handed their respective number. Originally it was Lukawa whow as given #10 but becoz Sakuragi went to Coach Anzai why he doesnt have a number. From the other side they then met Sendoh the Ace of Ryonan and Uozumi the team captain. It seems that Ryonan are better in this first part. We'll see who will win in d next.

Episode Summary
Inside the train, a school bully cowers back from the combined might of Sakuragi, Rukawa and Akagi. All in the train stare in shock at the towering cagers. The team is raring for their practice game, especially Akagi, who ends up ordering his teammates to do a thigh strengthening exercise (sitting down with their butt and thighs lifted an inch above the seat, with arms crossed over their chest) in the train, much to the embarrassment of Kogure. After the exercise, Ayako asks Sakuragi if he's all right since it's his first game, and our hero says he's fine. But Rukawa says he's nervous, and when Sakuragi attempts to punch him, he points out that he always acts aggressively when he's nervous. Still, Sakuragi brags that he's eager to play, saying that "he who controls the rebound, controls the world" (Kogure has to correct him, saying it's supposed to be "game", not "world"). He even adds that he intends to beat up Sendoh, that all are amazed by the redhead's pipeline, virtually unaware of the visit the previous evening by Ryonan snoop, Hikoichi. Arriving at Ryonan High, Anzai is greeted by Ryonan coach Moichi Taoka. Uozumi also greets Anzai, but ignores the hand that Akagi offers him, saying that he'll beat him. In the locker room, Anzai announces the starting five -- Akagi (4), Yasuda (6), Shiozaki (8), and Kogure (5). Sakuragi prays earnestly that he make the starting line up, but the honor is given to Rukawa (10). Sakuragi immediately loses his top, and starts pounding on Anzai's blubbery chin, demanding why he didn't make it to the team. He even yells at Akagi, saying that his late night efforts were wasted. Sakuragi also demands a uniform. Unfortunately, the last number on the jerseys available were up to 15. So Akagi tapes the No. 16 on his shirt. Sakuragi tears off his shirt and starts beating Akagi, but stops at once when Anzai tells him that Sakuragi is his secret weapon. At this point, Sakuragi demands a shirt that is worthy of his being the team's secret weapon, namely Rukawa's No. 10. Naturally, Rukawa doesn't want to give up his shirt and they start beating each other up. In the end, thanks to Kogure's intervention, Rukawa grudgingly gives up his No. 10 to Sakuragi and becomes No. 11. Poor Sasaoka ends up with the No. 16 taped to his chest. As Shohoku enter the gym, the Gundan (who literally hauled their sorry asses over to Ryonan on poor Yohei's overloaded bike) start teasing Sakuragi about his shirt, especially since his number is higher than Rukawa's. Sakuragi is eager for a game and he demands the presence of Sendoh from the deeply offended Team Ryonan, who are shocked by his brashness. At that moment, Akira Sendoh shows up late with a charming smile on his face. Of course, Taoka scolds Sendoh for this, but he couldn't bring himself to continue doing so to his star player when an apologetic Ryonan ace says he fell asleep. Uozumi tells Sendoh he doesn't have time for warm-up, but the ace says the jog on the way over to Ryonan was enough. As they go to center court, Sakuragi approaches Sendoh and says that he'll beat him. Sendoh is surprised by the redhead's audacity. With that calm smile, he shakes Sakuragi's hand and says he's looking forward to it. At that moment, Haruko and co. arrive, and are shocked to see Rukawa's three fans decked out in white and pink cheerleaders' outfits. Yes, the Rukawa Shinietai is born! In the jump ball, Akagi wins the tap over Uozumi and swats the ball to Yasuda. Unfortunately, Shiozaki and Yasuda are immediately intimidated by Uozumi. Yasuda's ball is stolen by Uekusa. Seeing what's happening, Sakuragi begs Anzai to let him in. Sendoh has the ball, but is guarded by Rukawa. He passes to Uekusa, who scores (2-0). Haruko's friends ask about Sendoh, and she says that he's a great player who defeated Shohoku during his first year. Even her brother admits that Ryonan's ace is a high caliber player. As the game progresses, Akagi has the ball, but is guarded by Uozumi. He passes to Kogure, who shoots, but it is swatted by the towering Ryonan center. Rukawa gets the ball and attempts to score, but he couldn't get past Uozumi as well. Yasuda gains the ball and passes to Akagi, who is immediately guarded by his rival. Akagi attempts to shoot, but Uozumi again successfully blocks it. Akagi stares in shock at the Ryonan center, who says that he will defeat Shohoku.
