The fighting-action in this ep is the beginning of Sakuragi and Rukawa's life-long rival battles! I think Rukawa is too cold toward women, but then again, he's cold toward men too. :/

Episode Summary
Furious at seeing one of their own beaten by ay Freshman, Hotta & co. surround Rukawa. At that moment, Hanamichi, Yohei and the rest of the Gundan were on the way to the roof. However, when they arrive, their would-be foes have been dispatched already by a tall Freshman, who was bleeding from his left temple. They soon learn that this guy is the same Rukawa Kaede, whom Haruko was enamored over. As a result, Sakuragi fumes with jealousy and begins to measure his rival's worth. Haruko, in the meantime, spies the two boys on the rooftop, and fearfully hurries over there, while remembering her friend's words that Sakuragi was a bully. True enough, she mistakenly accuses Sakuragi of being the one to hurt Rukawa. The redhead's heart is broken not once, but twice, as Haruko tells him she's mad at him. But then, Haruko herself was brusquely brushed off by Rukawa, causing Sakuragi to batter the boy with punches and head butts. Of course, Rukawa retaliates with a fierce punch of his own to the redhead's nose. Later that day, Haruko learns the truth about what happened from Yohei, but was too embarrassed to apologize. Meanwhile, broken-hearted Sakuragi is walking around in a daze of depression when he is accidentally hit by a basketball. In his rage, he vents his frustrations on Yasuda & Shiozaki, who are members of the Shohoku basketball club, and the Gundan. Suddenly, the huge Captain of the basketball club appears and bodily throws Sakuragi back. Sakuragi grows even more angry, shouting that basketball is simply "kiddie play", an insult that the towering Captain could not take. He challenges Sakuragi to a game, the object of which is for the redhead to steal the ball from him and shoot once before he could complete ten shots. Sakuragi readily accepts the challenge. News of the one-on-one spreads like wildfire and soon the entire school was at the gym, including a curious Rukawa who had just finished filling up his application to the basketball club. At first, Sakuragi breaks into tears at the memory of his last tender moment with Haruko, but soon steels himself for the battle. Knowing absolutely nothing about the game, he is unable to steal the ball, and at once point, even kicks it out of the Captain's hand, drawing taunts from his rival, jeers from the audience and mumbled derisive comments from Rukawa. Haruko, however, is horrified to learn about the challenge. Unknown to Sakuragi, the guy he's been jeering as a "Gorilla", "Ape" and "Banana Lover" is, in fact, Haruko's older brother.

This is the first episode wherein Sakuragi meets his match in fisticuffs in Rukawa and Akagi. Of course, Rukawa didn't escape unscathed either, feeling suddenly dizzy after the blows that the redhead had given him, and was even planning to visit the school doctor. Sakuragi's taunts to Akagi were translated from the Tagalog/Filipino dubbed version of SD.
